Emus raise their young on and around Iluka's Golf Course and are often seen on the roads to the beaches. They don't have much road sense, so visitors are asked to drive with caution, as these curious birds are well camouflaged. Dolphins also bring their young to the safety of the Clarence River. They surf the bow wave of the ferry and teach their babies to fish in the shallows along the foreshore at The Anchorage and if you are lucky you may watch them play mere metres away. Whales migrate north during mating season and often stop to wallow and play around the Clarence Coast. Iluka Bluff or Fraser's Reef Lookouts are the ideal places to catch a glimpse of these magnificent mammals. Other fauna often seen around Iluka are: goannas, possums, kangaroos, echidnas and a quiet, keen-eyed traveller may even see the shy koala or wombat. Bird life is prolific and the species found in and around Iluka are too numerous to list, however some of the more flamboyant or visible birds are the Rainbow Lorikeets, Kookaburras, Pelicans, Eagles, Honeyeaters, Galahs, both Black and White Cockatoos and the shy but often seen Rosella and Osprey. Information on the species and possible location of local wildlife may be obtained from Reception. Check
