Lismore Lismore’s surrounds include many interesting towns such as Nimbin, Kyogle, The Channon, Casino and Rosebank, to name but a few. Markets, nurseries/cafés, candle factory/shop, tearooms, taverns and local art/craft shops will fill in your day, along with street theatre, Saturday cultural events and the Tropical Fruits Festival. Lismore city is a fascinating amalgam of its history, both recent and ancient. Many nearby national parks and world-heritage areas are a great attraction, there are many cultural festivals and theatre productions and the reclaiming of culture by the Bundjalung people is enriching the whole region. Lismore is also only one hour’s drive from Iluka. Ballina Ballina’s name is derived from the indigenous word ‘Bullenah’, meaning place where oysters are plentiful. Settlers initially moved to the area for the cedar trees and now Ballina is a thriving tourist town, with local industry comprising of fishing, farming and tourism.
